Review of the Green Man Quiz, Wimborne

Review of the Green Man Quiz, Wimborne

The Quizalot Knights visited this location on Thursday 28th February 2019

Venue: The Green Man is close to the centre of Wimborne but boasts its own private car park. It’s a very friendly locals pub with basic decor and a jolly atmosphere.

Quizmaster: This event run by host and quizmaster Rich Baxter who was joined on piano by Tess Walter. Yes, you did read that correctly (See format below)

Format: This weekly happening is advertised as a quiz and it’s not for us to be questioning the definition. You get a picture sheet for £1 and that is pretty standard quiz stuff. Next up, its time to shell out another £2 for “Fun Fortunes” A self-carbonated professionally produced sheet that delivers itv’s “Family Fortunes” just without Les Dennis. BUT WAIT A MOMENT did we mention that all this is accompanied by Tess on the piano? You need to experience this for yourself but the Knights are here to tell you that it works. This was quite a caper, but for us the question was “Name something you keep secret” that started off with a unanimous PIN number and then got progressively darker. It’s not a quiz as such but we were all entertained. Finally we were treated to “Play Your Cards Right” This divided the knight’s opinion but the money has rolled-over to next week and is close to £250

Participation: We could only estimate participation levels but somewhere around 30 people on the night.

Nice Touches: We appreciated the little bowl of snacks that were offered freely to all quizzers (Pickled onion Monster Munch, Tanfastics, and Cadbury Celebrations) and Rich was particularly sure to make sure that we settled in as newcomers to his events.

Prizes: The picture quiz was £1 per sheet / winner takes all which was £28 on our night. Fun Fortunes was rewarded with raffle tickets for “Play Your Cards Right” as well as cash. We also witnessed the “One Question Shoot Out” which is an inspired way to describe a tie-break. We managed to pick up extras in “Bonus Box Bingo” as we just happened to have a certain answer in a certain place.

Summary: If you like your quizzes fun and quirky then look no further.
